Talmudic Storires: Narrative Art, Composition and Culture
Jeffrey L. Rubenstein
How should we understand the stories in the Babylonian Talmud? Where did they originate and why were they included in the Talmud? How are they related to the Talmudic Halachah?
By analyzing six Talmudic stories, Prof. Rubinstein draws our attention to the Sages' way of utilizing narratives in order to shed light on everyday life, and handlig fundemental tensions of their culture.
Prof. Rubinstein is a lecturer of Talmud and Rabbinic literature in New York University. He holds a Ph.D from Columbia University.
