THE HISTORY OF THE KARAITES
The Karaites are a Jewish sect originating in Iraq and Persia in the 8th and 9th centuries CE. The Karaites rejected the Rabbinic halakha accepting only the biblical ruling. The Karaites spread over the Islamic world of the Middle Ages, from Spain to the Caucasus, as well as to Lithuania and Poland.
The book surveys the Karaite history from its inception to present, and their literature, and describes the afmous Karaite scholars contribution to biblical and linguistic studies. |

"From the Promised Land to Exile and from Exile to the promised Land" deals with different issues about Black-Jewish identity within the African Diaspora. The author focuses in his study on examples of African-Jewish communities settled in Diaspora and in Israel.
An examination of the case of the Lemba community from Southern Africa, and of the black Hebrews who emigrated from the USA to Israel in the 1970s, will shed light on the "Black- Jewish phenomenon" in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Indeed, modern approaches have given rise to much discourse about African Jewry. A significant concern is the way some scholars define "Black Judaism" knowing that people most often connect Jewishness to Whiteness. What kind of debates does this discourse raise within Judaism today?
Jonas Zianga is a Graduate in Education (M.Ed.) and Sociology (Ph.D) from Strasbourg University (Alsace-France). His field of specialty concerns Black-African Jewry in Israel and in the Diaspora (history, identity, culture and traditions).
Dr Jonas Zianga is a lecturer in the inter-University program for African Studies, Department of Politics and Government, Ben- Gurion University of the Negev (Israel). |

THE BOOK OF CHRONICLES
Because of its well-organized and thorough documentation, this is a
very impressive piece of work. The fact that its approach is so straightforward enhances its value while making it all the more remarkable that no one has done this before. In so doing, the author displays a remarkable breadth of learning, using linguistic, historical, and literary insights to address a fundamental issue of biblical scholarship. Whatever one makes of his individual conclusions, they are valuable and their presentation straightforward. This book will be of immense value for both the data it marshals and the conclusions that it is able to reach from them. Readers who take the effort to work through the meticulous details that are gathered in both the text and the notes of this book will be rewarded many times over." -- Frederick E. Greenspahn, University of Denver in Review of Biblical Literature, 04/2004.
"...it is hard for me to imagine a scholar of Chronicles who will have no use for the book, or who can “safely ignore it.” In fact, this is a major contribution to the study of Chronicles and Kalimi is to be congratulated for his achievement." -- Ehud Ben Zvi, University of Alberta in Journal of Hebrew Scriptures, Volume 4 (2002-2003).
"Professor Isaac Kalimi, an outstanding Biblical scholar who has already published several books in English, Hebrew and German as well as numerous articles on Biblical themes and early Judaism, is probably the most prominent expert in the interpretation of the Book of Chronicles; and no study of this work would be adequate without constant reference to the results of his research in this field."-- Moses Aberbach, Baltimore Hebrew University, in Revue Biblique, 2001 |

FROM THE PROMISED LAND

The Garden of Eilat
The garden of Eilat is the story of two pioneer scientists who established a garden in the desert to show how to make the desert green. The garden was built in Eilat near the red sea. The narrative is a biography of my parents, Hugo and Elisabeth Boyko, both of whom were botanists who received international acclaim in their field of research. One of their specific research schemes in plant ecology was irrigation with seawater and brackish water in Israel and other countries. |

Weaving Tradition and Modernity
Bedouin Arab women in Higher Education are exposed to many differing, yet intersecting, worlds. This volume provides insight into the complex personal, academic and social worlds of these young women – primarily through their own words and voices.
Those in Academia have tended to characterize Arab/Muslim women, as silence and silenced by an oppressive culture and religion. But are they really silent? This monograph provides an opportunity for listening to the voices and glimpsing the agency of these path-breaking women. As such, it provides a foundation for understanding the impact of higher education upon their lives and society, and upon their future development. |

The various chapters relate to both theoretical and practical matters in every facet of the institution's life, from curricular issues, public health, community involvement, organizational structure, international relations, promotion and admission policies, faculty development, students' involvement and more.

Tradition, Heterodoxy and Religious Culture
This collection of essays explores the religious cultures and encounters of Judaism and Christianity in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It focuses on both intra-religious and inter-religious aspets of these cultures and encounters, in a period which saw the breakdown of religious consensus, the rise of science, the growing impact of printing. |
